Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Ease of Use: Perfect for Beginners
One of the standout features of the TOMZON A23 is its simplicity. Many customers praised how easy it is to operate, even for young children. One reviewer mentioned that their 4-year-old daughter quickly mastered the controls, thanks to the One Key Takeoff and Landing features. The intuitive remote control and straightforward calibration process make it a breeze for beginners to get started. Another user highlighted the dedicated buttons for correcting drift, which ensures smooth flying even for inexperienced pilots.
However, not all users found the controls intuitive. One reviewer noted that the drone didn’t hover steadily and required constant adjustments to maintain its position. This could be frustrating for younger kids who might struggle with fine motor skills.
Durability: Built to Withstand Crashes
The TOMZON A23 is designed with durability in mind. Its tough materials and four propeller guards provide excellent protection against collisions. Several customers shared stories of their kids crashing the drone repeatedly, only to find it still functioning perfectly. One parent even mentioned that their child dropped the controller multiple times, but it continued to work without any issues. This makes the A23 a reliable choice for kids who are still learning the ropes.
That said, one reviewer reported that their drone broke within a few weeks of use, which was disappointing. While most users found it durable, it’s worth noting that the drone may not withstand extremely rough handling over an extended period.
Flight Performance: Fun and Versatile
The A23’s 3D flips, auto-rotation, and circle fly features add an extra layer of excitement to flying. Customers loved how these tricks made the drone feel like a mini stunt performer. The colorful LED lights were another hit, especially for nighttime flights. One reviewer described the lights as "fantastic" and "bright enough to see in daylight," adding to the overall fun.
On the flip side, some users felt that the battery life could be improved. Each battery provides 8-10 minutes of flight time, which means frequent swapping is necessary. While the inclusion of two batteries helps, it might still feel insufficient for kids who want longer play sessions.
Portability: Compact and Travel-Friendly
The TOMZON A23’s small size is a major advantage. At just 3.5 inches square, it’s compact enough to fit in a pocket, making it ideal for indoor use. Many customers appreciated its portability, with one user calling it their "favorite indoor drone." However, its small size also makes it less suitable for outdoor flying, as even a slight breeze could carry it away.
Value for Money: Affordable and Fun
Most customers agreed that the A23 offers excellent value for its price. At an affordable cost, it provides a range of features typically found in more expensive models. One reviewer even mentioned buying multiple units for their nieces and nephews to enjoy together. The inclusion of a soft-shell zipper case was another appreciated touch, adding to the overall value.
Conclusion: Is the TOMZON A23 Worth It?
The TOMZON A23 Mini Drone is a fantastic choice for kids and beginners looking for an easy-to-use, durable, and fun drone. Its compact size, colorful LED lights, and trick features make it a hit with young pilots, while its affordable price makes it accessible to a wide audience. However, the short battery life and occasional issues with stability may be drawbacks for some users.
Final Verdict: If you’re looking for a budget-friendly drone that’s perfect for indoor play and beginner pilots, the TOMZON A23 is a solid choice. It’s durable, fun, and easy to use, making it a great gift for kids aged 4 and up. Just be prepared for frequent battery swaps and keep it indoors for the best experience.

Comments from Amazon:
I have several drones, but this little Tomzon is my favorite. This is a very small drone (~ 3.5 inches square), so it's an indoor drone. Unless you have zero breeze, I wouldn't fly it outside. Even if you don't feel a breeze, remember that there's always air movement higher up, so if you're outside, be mindful that this little guy could get lost very easily. So, I advise only indoor flying. It's capable of doing flips, which are nice and tight. It'll also do large pirouette, and my favorite, spin, all my a simple push of a button on the remote. There's almost no latency between the remote and drone, so it responds quickly. It's zippy, even in slowest speed, so keep it in mind when flying it. It's easy to correct any drift with the 4 dedicated buttons on the remote. As with all drones, it needs calibration on a level surface when you start it. If you don't do this, you won't be able to control the drone. The Tomzon has the easiest setup and calibration I've ever used. It automatically syncs with the remote and gyro calibration is done by pushing the dedicated button. The drone is hardy. I've crashed a few times and like a well-known bunny, it keeps going. This drone is my cat's favorite drone. I guess it's the LEDs, or maybe because it's so zippy. He loves stalking it. The LEDs are fantastic. They're controllable by remote. They're bright, so you can see them in daylight. I took the short video to show you how how they look. The light was on in the room. The batteries last a surprising amount of time, especially given the fact that the drone is small. I get a good 9-10 minutes of flying time per battery. I always let the drone rest after using 2 batteries, so the motors don't overheat. The charging time is ~ 1.25 hours. You'll get the recharging cord, which plugs into a standard 5v USB plug. I loved this drone so much that this is my 2nd A23. I gave the first one to a friend. It's a very good first drone.
It is a good toy. Pretty easy to learn the basics. Wish the batteries would last longer between charges.
We have tried like 5 drones for my child. A drone teacher told us about this one, I have been very impressed with its response, quality and ability.
I bought this for my 4 year old. This drone is perfect for young kids. It is stable and sturdy. Easy to fly and use. It’s affordable. No fuss. The batteries charge quickly and have about 1.5 hours of flight time. It’s survived everything my 4 year old does to it. He crashes into everything still going strong. He’s dropped the controller probably 10-15 times, put the batteries back in and works just the same. Only con is the battery cover on the controller comes off pretty easily when dropped. Takes 3 AAA batteries for the controller. I will buy this one again.
Drone came in a soft shell zipper close case which is excellent! It was quick to assemble and read through instructions . Smooth flying and the camera quality was surprisingly great!! My loved seeing themselves on the camera. My husband loved flying it around our house!
We got this for my son's birthday a couple weeks beforehand, and then it broke within a few weeks of use but was after the return window of 30 days so they would not return. It was *extremely* difficult to navigate and never just hovered. It was constantly moving, and you had to use the controller to basically fight it's flight plan. So if you started it to fly, it would just keep moving in a direction. And then you had to use the controls to redirect. The controls were not intuitive. There wasn't a left right forward backwards button. You had to spin it to the direction you wanted, and then only forward and backwards. But if you didn't know what direction, you'd sit there for a second trying to get your bearings and it would already be 10 ft away, and then you'd have to get your bearings again. But just mostly disappointing that it didn't last more than a month before breaking - and it's not like my son was that rough with it.
Overall this drone is a great one! I also got the A34 from TOMZON, and this is pretty much an upgrade from that version. For starters they finally inlcuded a charger that can charge both batteries at the same time!! That is a huge plus for me because in the A34 drone you could only charge one battery at a time. Also, this drone as well as the controller are significantly smaller. The drone can fit inside a persons pocket that is how small it is. But don't let the size fool you! This drone can still fly really fast and do all kinds of tricks! Each battery gives you around 8-10 minutes of flight time at full charge. Which means you will have to be swapping batteries relatively quickly. And it takes a little over an hour to charge both batteries to full after being fully depleted. The drone itslef also includes some cool RGB lighting that has some awesome effects. Lastly, I think the ease of use is the best part about this drone. My 4 year old daughter was able to get the hang of flying it! So that just goes to show how intuitive the controls are. Taking off and landing with a single press of a button. A button to do some awesome "donut" spins. Its such easy and amazing entertainment for kids of all ages. I might buy another 3 drones just to have a little drone flying competition for all my nieces and nephews because they all want to fly it and handing off after just 2-3 minutes of flying doesn't seem to be like enough time for them. Overall I would give this drone and absolute 10 out of 10. I highly recommend this as a gift for a kid (boy or girl) ages 4+. It is a compact, durable, and absolutely easy to fly drone that even an adult can have fun playing with (I know I sure did). I am 90% sure that I will be buying more of these (especially since they are so affordable and economically priced).
