The Mini X Drone with 4K Camera is a lightweight, foldable quadcopter designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Weighing less than 249g, it doesn’t require FAA or Remote ID registration, making it a hassle-free option for travel and outdoor adventures. With features like a 2-axis gimbal, 4K camera, GPS auto-return, and level-5 wind resistance, this drone promises a smooth and enjoyable flying experience. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

1. Build Quality and Design

The Mini X Drone has a sleek, foldable design that’s lightweight and portable. Many users appreciate its resemblance to the DJI Mini series, which is a big plus for those looking for a budget-friendly alternative.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and Portable: At just 245g, it’s easy to carry around, making it ideal for travel and outdoor activities.
  • Foldable Design: The compact design fits neatly into the included carrying case.
  • Extra Accessories: Comes with spare propellers, screws, and an extra battery, which customers love.

Cons:

  • Cheap Feel: Some users noted that the drone and controller feel a bit flimsy, with creaking sounds during the “squeeze test.”
  • Non-Removable Joysticks: The joysticks are designed to look removable but aren’t, which can be misleading.

2. Camera and Video Quality

The Mini X Drone boasts a 4K camera with a 2-axis gimbal and EIS stabilization, promising smooth and clear visuals. However, customer feedback reveals some discrepancies.

Pros:

  • Good Photo Quality: The drone captures 12MP photos and 4K videos, which are sharp and vibrant.
  • Adjustable Lens: The 90° adjustable lens and 120° wide-angle view provide versatility in capturing shots.
  • Stable Footage: The 2-axis gimbal and EIS stabilization work well to reduce vibrations and deliver smooth videos.

Cons:

  • Misleading Specs: Some users found that the video resolution is closer to 2K (2560x1440) rather than true 4K, as advertised.
  • Lag in Photo Capture: Taking pictures can take longer than expected, which can be frustrating.

3. Flight Performance and Features

The Mini X Drone is packed with intelligent features like GPS auto-return, follow-me mode, and waypoint flight. But how does it perform in real-world conditions?

Pros:

  • Stable Flight: The drone handles well in level-5 winds, thanks to its brushless motors and advanced flight control system.
  • GPS Auto-Return: The auto-return feature is accurate and reliable, ensuring the drone comes back safely when the battery is low or the signal is lost.
  • Beginner-Friendly: With three-speed modes (low, medium, and high), it’s easy for beginners to learn and for advanced users to challenge themselves.

Cons:

  • Short Battery Life: The advertised 45-minute flight time is closer to 15-20 minutes in real-world use, depending on wind conditions and flying style.
  • App Issues: The app’s interface is clunky, with annoying sounds and poor contrast between text and background.

4. Usability and Setup

Setting up the Mini X Drone is straightforward, but some users encountered minor hiccups.

Pros:

  • Easy Setup: Most users found the initial setup and calibration process simple and intuitive.
  • Adjustable Phone Holder: The controller’s phone holder is adjustable, accommodating various phone sizes, including the iPhone 16 Pro.

Cons:

  • WiFi Connection: Connecting to the drone’s WiFi and initializing the GPS can take longer than expected.
  • Cheap Controller: The remote feels like a toy and has stiff joysticks that loosen with use.

Final Verdict: Is the Mini X Drone Worth It?

The Mini X Drone with 4K Camera is a solid choice for beginners and budget-conscious drone enthusiasts. It offers a range of features typically found in more expensive models, such as GPS auto-return, follow-me mode, and stable flight performance. However, it’s not without its flaws. The misleading video resolution, short battery life, and cheap-feeling controller are notable drawbacks.

Who Should Buy It?

  • Beginners looking for an affordable drone to learn the ropes.
  • Travelers who need a lightweight, portable drone for aerial photography.
  • Budget-conscious users who want DJI-like features without the high price tag.

Who Should Skip It?

  • Professionals or advanced users who require true 4K video and longer flight times.
  • Those who prioritize build quality and a premium feel.

In conclusion, the Mini X Drone is a great entry-level option that delivers decent performance and features for its price. While it may not replace high-end drones, it’s a fun and functional choice for casual users.

Comments from Amazon:

It was well thought of, packaging, bag included, extra props and extra battery included as well

This mini drone reminds me of the Dji mini. It was well thought of, packaging, bag included, extra props and extra battery included as well. I did not even read the manual and was able to bind and connect the app from my iPhone. It requires calibration on first flight which is very straightforward. The app is so easy to navigate and the controller holds my iPhone 16pro firmly and with no problem. The phone connector is adjustable so it can adjust to the size of your cellphone. The weight of the drone is same as Dji mini only 249g. First flight was a breeze. The picture and video is great HD quality. Other functionality is return to home is accurate. This is a great drone for its price. I highly recommend, You will have lots of fun flying and taking videos and pictures. There are other features that came with this unit, follow me, point of interest , gestures for photo and video, one key take off and landing waypoints and much more. This is a duplicate of the famous Dji mini drone. This drone deserves a 5 star review…..

 Here's my findings

Using my experience in testing drones within this price range and making comparisons. Here's my findings. It's always nice having a simple case and two batteries. The extra blades is a must. GPS works well, signal is good and video feed is decent, there are lags at time and a long stop when taking pictures. Taking pictures should only take a couple seconds. The drone has 3 stages of flight and I love the sport mode. With a lot of drones, they fly so well they no longer need any skill. This drone on sports mode lets me go crazy with the controls. At this setting it's easy to crash if you don't know how to really fly. So this drone is great at learning skills. Drone has level 5 wind rating so does well in lighter winds, very stable. Video and photo quality is good and comparable to other $200 dollar drones. The downloaded quality will be lower quality compared to what's stored on the Micro SD card ( Not Included). The app is annoying, The sounds and voice is annoying. App also needs some refinement compared to others I've used. Initial set up for flight is standard but... Still need to connect to phones WiFi, calibrate the drones GPS and get the phone fully initialized with drones GPS takes a little more time than it should. The only thing I appreciate about the remote is the multiple battery configurations. It has a built in lipo ( very small) and has the ability to use regular batteries as well. The biggest issue I have with the remote is it's cheap, feels like a toy. What a disappointment. Drone battery life is around 15-20 min, closer to 15. depends on how you fly and wind conditions. I love the way this drone fly's and the ability to have fun flight control to learn, however, it's a miss in other important areas.

But you must be aware, the specs in the listing are not correct

The drone flies well and the image stabilization is pretty good. But you must be aware, the specs in the listing are not correct. The video is only Quad HD (2560x1440), closer to 2k. See screenshot. Yes, that is directly off the SD card, not the transmitted video to the phone. The transmitted video is even less which is why you should make sure you use the SD card for best resolution download. Photos are 4k (3840x2160), however. It is still a great drone but the price should reflect the features.

Great budget friendly drone, it does what it needs to do, crisp HD videos, easy to control, responsive, stable flight and a lot of fun! I would buy it again.

Was how much it looks like the DJI Mini series of drones

What I like about this drone. Was how much it looks like the DJI Mini series of drones. The drone is easy to setup right out the box and also to fly right out of the box. It has a two way flying mode. One for beginners and the other for more advanced flyers. Pictures from this drone was of good quality. Plus the price is amazing and for the price you’re getting the fly more combo bundle fly more. You also have built in a follow me mode you can do way points flying. the functionality and durability of this drone is remarkable at this price point.

Video and pictures are good quality

GPS follow works will. Video and pictures are good quality. See video bellow. Would recommend for first time drone purchasers.

I know it's supposed to be lightweight, but the body of the drone and controller creak a bit during the squeeze test

Taking it out the box, it has a cheap feel and finish to the controller and drone. I know it's supposed to be lightweight, but the body of the drone and controller creak a bit during the squeeze test. The controller is a bit stiff, and looses a bit with use. The joy-sticks are non-removable, but made to look like removable joysticks. The app is hard to read due to the contrast of the text and background. There are spare propellers and screws as well as an extra battery and case. It does fly when when set up, and I hope to get hours of use. Connection to remote never disconnected and video is decent for what it is. It's a good overall starter pack for someone wanting to get into drone use.
