The Contixo F28 2K Camera Drone is a foldable, GPS-enabled drone designed for adults and beginners alike. Packed with features like a 2K HD camera, Follow Me mode, Way Point navigation, Orbit Mode, and a selfie mode, this drone promises to deliver a fun and functional flying experience. With a flight time of up to 46 minutes (using two batteries) and a compact, portable design, it’s marketed as an excellent choice for outdoor adventures, casual flying, and even as a gift for drone enthusiasts. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the pros and cons based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons of the Contixo F28 Drone

1. Build Quality and Design

The Contixo F28 boasts a sleek, foldable design that makes it highly portable. It comes with a carrying case, which is a nice touch for storage and travel. The drone is lightweight (90 grams) and feels sturdy, with no major defects reported by users. However, its lightweight nature also makes it susceptible to wind, which can cause drifting during flight.

Pros:

  • Foldable and portable design.
  • Comes with a carrying case for easy transport.
  • Brushless motors for improved durability and efficiency.

Cons:

  • Lightweight construction makes it less stable in windy conditions.
  • No rotor guards, increasing the risk of damage during collisions.

2. Camera Quality

The drone features a 2K HD camera with an 85° field of view and adjustable angles (0° to 90°). While the camera resolution is advertised as 2K, some users noted that the actual image and video quality are closer to 1080p due to the lens limitations. That said, the camera performs well for casual use, capturing decent aerial photos and videos.

Pros:

  • Adjustable camera angles for versatile shooting.
  • Good enough quality for beginners and casual users.

Cons:

  • Image quality doesn’t fully utilize the 2K resolution.
  • Video quality is limited to 1280 x 720 pixels on the app unless using an SD card.

3. Flight Performance and Features

The Contixo F28 shines in its flight capabilities, offering multiple intelligent modes like Follow Me, Way Point, Orbit Mode, and Headless Mode. These features make it beginner-friendly and fun to use. The GPS functionality ensures stable hovering and one-key return, which is a lifesaver for new pilots.

Pros:

  • GPS control for stable hovering and auto-return.
  • Multiple intelligent flight modes for hands-free operation.
  • Long flight time (up to 46 minutes with two batteries).

Cons:

  • Some users reported connectivity issues, leading to loss of control.
  • The drone can drift in windy conditions due to its lightweight design.

4. Ease of Use

For beginners, the Contixo F28 offers a relatively smooth learning curve. Features like auto-takeoff and landing simplify the process, while the intuitive controls make it easy to navigate. However, pairing the drone with the controller can be time-consuming, and some users recommend gaining experience with a cheaper drone before flying this one.

Pros:

  • Beginner-friendly with auto-takeoff and landing.
  • Intuitive controls for easy navigation.

Cons:

  • Pairing process can be frustrating and time-consuming.
  • Not ideal for complete novices without prior drone experience.

5. Durability and Battery Life

The drone comes with two rechargeable batteries, providing a combined flight time of up to 46 minutes. However, some users reported discrepancies in battery capacity (advertised as 2000mAh but labeled as 1500mAh). Additionally, there were isolated incidents of motor overheating, leading to damage.

Pros:

  • Two batteries included for extended flight time.
  • Brushless motors for better longevity.

Cons:

  • Battery capacity may not match advertised specifications.
  • Risk of motor overheating in rare cases.

Final Verdict: Is the Contixo F28 Worth It?

The Contixo F28 2K Camera Drone is a solid choice for beginners and casual drone enthusiasts. It offers a range of features typically found in more expensive models, such as GPS control, Follow Me mode, and a decent camera. However, it’s not without its flaws. The lightweight design makes it less stable in windy conditions, and the camera quality, while good, doesn’t fully deliver on the 2K promise.

Who Should Buy This Drone?

  • Beginners looking for an affordable drone to learn the ropes.
  • Casual users who want a fun, feature-packed drone for occasional flights.
  • Those seeking a portable drone for outdoor adventures.

Who Should Skip It?

  • Professional photographers or videographers needing high-quality footage.
  • Users in windy environments who require a more stable drone.
  • Anyone expecting DJI-level performance at this price point.

In conclusion, the Contixo F28 is a great entry-level drone that balances functionality and affordability. While it may not replace high-end models, it’s an excellent stepping stone for those looking to explore the world of drones without breaking the bank.

Obstacle avoidance was desired, but overlooked

I settled on a GPS equipped drone. Obstacle avoidance was desired, but overlooked. The F28 found obstacles, but survived. I desired a great deal for cheap. I received a beginner's drone. I have very causiously increased use. I am made experimental flights. I tested my beliefs of the F28 drone's abilities. The F28 drone took pics and videos. The F28 drone has a few flight features, which require effective understanding, & safe use & mode exit Buying this drone became a training experience, so that a later $500 - $1000 USD drone purchase can be made, only if the experience of use encouraged more flight time. This drone will be, for me, an infrequent flight & usage experience currently. I bought the F28 while in USA, where rapid, & reliable shipment was possible. The drone exceeds the mini drone limit, so is less desirable in USA. I am flying in Mexico, where every rule is broken, by all, daily. I think a cheaper mini training drone might be a better option for someone expecting to later buy an expensive drone for USA usage. I did & do enjoy this drone. Fly within a large open area, within view, and avoid obstacles & people.

Light weight, has all the fun options (like the follow-me), and at this price point, you don't have to break your bank if you crash it

This is a good drone for beginners. Light weight, has all the fun options (like the follow-me), and at this price point, you don't have to break your bank if you crash it. Full video review attached.

The camera has a great angle and I would recommend this drone to drone lovers

I flew it to test and it flew nice and smooth. The camera has a great angle and I would recommend this drone to drone lovers. The GPS and return to helipad features really make it easier! So does the follow me feature! I LOVE it. It'll be fun and helpful for years to come.

Only thing I’m disappointed in is the battery

I instruct a summer class at a local technical college on drones so I was surprised to see this one perform as well as the DJI drones I’m use to. Only thing I’m disappointed in is the battery. The ad says 2000mAh but the batteries says they only 1500. Battery also says it’s a lipo and a li-ion? Which is it?

Pros: Reasonably good quality for a drone in the sub-$200 segment

This review is for the F28 standard version of the drone. Pros: Reasonably good quality for a drone in the sub-$200 segment. Craftsmanship and materials are good with no defects or problems noted. Two batteries and two sets of rotor blades are included which is a nice touch. Auto-takeoff and landing are extremely useful for beginners. It uses brushless motors for improved longevity and better power efficiency. It comes well-packaged in its own little carrying case with handle. It's very compact and easy to take with you on adventures. Cons: No rotor guards so if you fly this too close to anything it can damage your blades, or damage whatever you hit. Drone is fairly lightweight, and any kind of breeze will cause it to drift a fair bit. While controls are fairly intuitive for someone who has flown drones before, I wouldn't want to put a total novice on the controls of a $200 drone because, like any remote-control aerial craft, this could easily be destroyed in a bad crash. Camera quality says 2K and the sensor might have that resolution, but the lens isn't good enough to really take advantage of that. It would say the picture quality looks about as good as 1080. Final thoughts: This is NOT an $1,100 DJI Air (professional level), or even a $470 DJI Mini (entry level). If you were expecting it to perform like a much more expensive drone you'll be disappointed. But considering just how functional and fun this drone is for $200, I think it warrants 5 stars. Essentially you're getting 80% of the performance of the DJI Mini at 43% of the cost. Which makes this a very respectable drone for the price you pay. I think this drone is perfect for the casual drone pilot who wants a fairly full-featured drone to play around with from time to time. OR it could be perfect for the aspiring drone pilot who wants to hone their flying skills with a mid-range drone before upgrading to something much more expensive. Also note if you've never flown a drone before it can take a little bit of getting used to, because dealing with 6 degrees of freedom in travel direction feels a little unnatural to us earthbound creatures. I recommend buying a cheap $40 (non-camera) drone first and messing around with that to get the hang of the controls, so that when you are ready to fly this (or an even nicer drone) you can do so without immediately crashing it.

However, you have to pair the drone to the controller and that honestly took quite awhile to complete

This drone has a lot of features for the price. However, you have to pair the drone to the controller and that honestly took quite awhile to complete. Once paired, the drone operated flawlessly. A key feature was the drone had rapid response while flying the drone. I would not call this a beginner drone; some experience is definitely necessary. No batteries are required for the drone or controller as it comes with charging cable, but not the plug in adapter. Everything fits in a nice case. Overall, this is a decent drone, especially for the price point. UPDATE: This is an update to my previous review of this product. I never even finished one battery charge before the drones right rear engine got hot and melted the the end of the arm. this caused the arm to tilt making the drone inoperable. I attached 2 pictures of the rear arm of the drone. Needless to say the drone is no longer functioning. Seemed like a decent drone till this happened.

the picture quality isn't as good as my main drone, but very useable

at first glance, this drone seemed to be very well built with some great features. the picture quality isn't as good as my main drone, but very useable. I charged everything up overnight, connected everything, was out in open field, checked all prerequisites, then proceeded to take off. it worked exactly like my other drones except once i got it up in the air about 80ft and about 20ft out, it started beeping and took off on its own. i had absolutely lost control and it just kept flying forward. i still had video, but no controls. battery was full on my phone, the controller, and the drone. i'm assuming it somehow lost connection. it flew straight into a tree about 100 yards away. when it came down, it was done for. complete paperweight. i've been using drones for about 5 years now and i've never had one do this before. unfortunately, i can not recommend this product.
