But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the pros and cons based on real customer experiences.
Pros and Cons of the Autel Robotics EVO II Dual 640T V3
1. Build Quality and Durability
The Autel EVO II Dual 640T V3 has been praised for its robust build quality. Customers have noted that the drone feels sturdy and well-constructed, capable of handling various environments. One user mentioned, "The overall build quality is very strong. Stable and steady in flight." Another highlighted its durability in cold weather and windy conditions, stating, "It hovers, holds, and handles wind and cold so far with no problem."
However, some users have reported issues after firmware updates, which can render the drone temporarily unusable. One frustrated customer shared, "Once you update it, it will almost never connect to the controller. I have sat for an hour, turning them both on and off, resetting both, and still cannot get a connection." This seems to be a recurring issue for a small subset of users.

2. Thermal Imaging and Camera Performance
The thermal imaging capabilities of this drone are a standout feature. With a 640x512 resolution thermal sensor and 10+ temperature measurement modes, it excels in scenarios like wildlife management, inspections, and search operations. A customer raved, "The thermal application is much better than I anticipated. Even with heavy tree canopy, I can still easily see animals." Another user added, "The visible camera quality is excellent as well, with stunning detail."
The D-RI Ranges function (Detection, Recognition, Identification) is another highlight, allowing users to identify objects and their intent with precision. This feature has been particularly useful for hunters and public safety professionals.
3. Flight Performance and Battery Life
The EVO II Dual 640T V3 boasts a 38-minute flight time, which customers have found to be accurate and reliable. One user noted, "Battery life has been as reported in descriptions, and there is plenty of fly time in each battery." The drone’s 360° obstacle avoidance and Dynamic Track 2.1 features have also been well-received, with users praising its responsiveness and stability in flight.
However, some users have mentioned that the learning curve can be steep, especially for those transitioning from other brands like DJI. While one user found the transition seamless, others have noted that the advanced features require time to master.
4. Usability and Controller
The included Smart Controller V3 has been a hit among users. Its large screen and intuitive interface make it easy to navigate the drone’s features. One customer shared, "The included big controller really helps with control and usability." Another added, "Screens and menus are very self-explanatory for a drone pilot with some experience."
That said, some users have faced connectivity issues after firmware updates, which can be frustrating. As one user put it, "Customer support was about as useless as you'd expect. Instead of instructions on how to fix this, I get questions leading to me having the wrong firmware."
5. Customer Support and Warranty
While many users have had positive experiences with Autel’s customer support, others have found it lacking. One satisfied customer shared, "Customer contact/service has been great. I had to send the smart controller in, and they upgraded everything for me and returned it promptly." However, another user expressed frustration, stating, "Customer support was about as useless as you'd expect."
The FULL USA WARRANTY is a significant selling point, but some users have opted out of the extended coverage due to its high cost. One user admitted, "I hope I don’t regret not getting the extended coverage."

Comments from Amazon:
This drone handles really well and the included big controller really help with this. I would recommend for anyone with serious use cases!
Extremely easy to control, amazing thermal camera and zoom, even with heavy tree canopy can still easily see animals, have used it to recover multiple animals, even in daylight. Used it to scan acrage and count deer numbers, found where hogs are hiding.
I've had this unit for about 9 months now and have used it in various environments and settings. The functionality, craftsmanship and customer support for this product is all exceptional. I've used this drone for wildlife management, inspections as well as recreational. The thermal application is much better than I anticipated as well as the visible camera. I would absolutely recommend this unit and plan on purchasing another one this year.
The overall build quality is very strong. Stable and steady in flight. Collision avoidance and home feature works extremely well. Landing point accuracy is with in 2 feet from my testing. Camera is of extreme high quality and thermal view overlay (screen on screen) is a helpful feature. Recommend this product.
Order number: 6230 It has a lot of great features and, WHEN it works, it is great for the price. However, the major flaw with this drone is that once you update it, it will almost ever connect to the controller. No exaggeration, I have sat for an hour, turning them both on and off, resetting both, and still cannot get a connection. This has been going on for a year. "Customer support" was about as useless as you'd expect: Instead of instructions on how to fix this, I get questions leading to me having the wrong firmware, without telling me how to even change the firmware. Why could Autel just not publish an update to fix this problem? It as almost been a year, and my device is still completely useless 50% of the time.
An incredible amount of technology is packed into this Drone. The capabilities far exceed your understanding when you first dive into the operating this technical marvel. It’s like when I purchased a Porsche Turbo S some years ago. It’s capabilities far exceeded my understanding and ability. The learning curve was incredible and fun with systems like Porsche Stability management system that would override my inputs when I did something stupid that would have gotten me injured or killed. This drone has similar Gerard rails that help prevent you from injuring or killing your drone. All in all having fun diving deep into its capabilities. If you can acquire an Autel drone you will not be disappointed. On the technical support side I think I messed up things when I initially received my unit and tried to upgrade the app. I had to send the smart controller in and they upgraded everything for me and returned it promptly. All in all very satisfied with Autel.
Drone came very quickly and in perfect condition. Having been a DJI user for a year this was my first experience into Autel. It was a much more seamless transition than I expected. Was expecting a large learning curve but found the two brands to be fairly similar in terms of remote functionality. Screens and menus are very self explanatory for a drone pilot with some experience and they are very similar to the DJI menus. Flight of the aircraft has been very nice. It is quiter than I expected and very responsive. Range is excellent and having thermal adds an entire new dimension with endless new possibilities of things to find. Visibal camera quality is excellent as well with stunning detail. Battery life has been as reported in descriptions and as you would expect, there is plenty of fly time in each battery. Obstacle avoidance works perfectly, just like my DJI drones. It hovers, holds, and handles wind and cold so far with no problem. The case and everything else are excellent. I just need more time behind the joysticks. Only thing I didn't do was get the extended coverage as I have with my other drones, it is very expensive for this drone, I hope I don't regret this. For someone looking to get into a high end platform with thermal imaging and not the super high price tag I would highly recommend this without reservation. Customer contact/service has been great too.
