If you're looking for an affordable and beginner-friendly drone, the REDRIE Drone with Camera might just be what you need. This foldable drone is designed for kids and adults alike, offering a range of features like a 1080P FPV camera, altitude hold, gesture selfie, waypoint fly, and more. With its lightweight design and user-friendly controls, it’s perfect for casual flyers and those just starting their drone journey. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

Quality and Durability

One of the standout features of the REDRIE drone is its durability. Many users have praised its ability to withstand crashes and rough handling. One reviewer shared, "I got it stuck in a tree and used a small rock to knock it out! It’s still flying." Another user mentioned that despite a few crashes into trees, the drone remained intact with no broken parts. This makes it a great option for beginners who are still mastering their flying skills.

However, some users noted that the drone’s lightweight design can make it less stable in windy conditions. One parent mentioned, "The wind did pick up and it smacked into the house and broke a propeller." Thankfully, the drone comes with spare propellers, so minor damages can be easily fixed.

Ease of Use

The REDRIE drone is widely praised for its beginner-friendly controls. Features like altitude hold, headless mode, and one-key start make it easy for newcomers to get the hang of flying. A first-time drone user shared, "It was very easy to start up and fly. You do not need to use your phone to fly it, only to use the camera." Another reviewer appreciated the simplicity, saying, "My son could even control it rather easy."

That said, some users found the instructions lacking. One reviewer expressed frustration, stating, "They do give you basic information on setting it up and turning it on but little else." For example, the meaning of the control box’s lights and sounds wasn’t clearly explained, which could be confusing for absolute beginners.

Camera and Features

The 1080P camera is a highlight for many users, especially considering the drone’s affordable price point. One reviewer noted, "The video quality was good. It functions well for what it’s designed to do." The gesture selfie feature also adds a fun element, allowing users to capture photos and videos with simple hand gestures.

However, some users felt the camera quality could be better. A reviewer mentioned, "The quality of the video is pretty poor but it functions." While the camera is decent for casual use, it may not meet the expectations of those looking for professional-grade footage.

Battery Life and Accessories

The inclusion of two rechargeable batteries is a big plus, extending the drone’s flight time significantly. One user shared, "The battery life is excellent and does not take very long to recharge." The drone also comes with useful accessories like spare propellers and propeller guards, which are especially handy for beginners.

The REDRIE Drone with Camera is a solid choice for beginners and casual flyers. Its durable build, user-friendly controls, and fun features like gesture selfie and 360° flips make it an excellent entry-level drone. While the camera quality and instructions could be improved, these drawbacks are understandable given the drone’s affordable price point.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly drone to dip your toes into aerial photography or simply have some fun, the REDRIE drone is a great option. It’s especially suitable for kids and families, offering hours of entertainment without breaking the bank. Just keep in mind that it’s best used in calm weather conditions and may require a bit of patience to master the controls.

It's easy to control, thanks to features like altitude hold and headless mode, which make it less intimidating for newcomers

This REDRIE drone is a decent option for beginners and casual flyers. It's easy to control, thanks to features like altitude hold and headless mode, which make it less intimidating for newcomers. The 1080P camera provides decent quality footage, and the ability to capture photos and videos with gestures is a fun touch. I'd recommend this drone to beginners, casual flyers, and anyone looking for a fun and affordable way to get started with drone photography.

I have a couple others of different sizes and this one works just as great as the others being half the size! It's such a basic drone with very user friendly controls

Don't let the size of this drone fool you. I have a couple others of different sizes and this one works just as great as the others being half the size! It's such a basic drone with very user friendly controls. The way it lights up makes it fun to use when it's a bit darker outside but I would definitely recommend using it during the day to take advantage of the great camera. I'm having lots of fun using this with my kids. The fact that it's lightweight makes it easy to carry around with the case that comes with it.

With that out of the way, here is my review

I did receive this product for free, however I enjoyed it so much that my wife and I acquired a second one for her to fly. With that out of the way, here is my review. For starters, the drone comes with all you need out of the box. Spare propellers, two batteries, and propeller guards (which I highly recommend using till you are a bit more experienced). For a budget drone it is quite durable, surviving a few crashes and scrapes in the week I've had it. The battery life is excellent and does not take very long to recharge. The camera quality is acceptable for the price point coming in at 1080p. It offers photos and video recording through the app. Now, when it comes to flying, the controls are simple enough but as you gain confidence in you ability you can pull off some nice tricks aided by the controls, such as one button 360 barrel rolls. The drone is quite fast and maneuvers easily, with quick turns with fast ascent and descent. The controls also offer one button landing and take off. I will say, for noise levels the drone is not too loud but it is definitely noticeable within about 15ft. For the price point of this drone ( about $50 starting price + another 40% off with coupon) you would be hard pressed to find something better. I highly recommend this drone especially for beginners and I'm excited to see what REDRIE has planned for the future. I would love to see them produce a higher end, more advanced drone for novices/more experienced fliers.

Between the good reviews and the $50 price, it was time to try it out

This was my first drone. Between the good reviews and the $50 price, it was time to try it out. It was very easy to start up and fly. You do not need to use your phone to fly it, only to use the camera. The quality of the video is pretty poor but it functions. Having the phone in the remote makes it awkward to handle. I’ve just been flying it without the phone. It is very durable. I got it stuck in a tree and use a small rock to knock it out! It’s still flying. And we’ve hit a few other things with it. For the price and ease of use I would totally recommend it. Just don’t expect the video or picture quality to be very good.

I know he is a little young for this, but video games have really helped his hand eye coordination with things so we decided to try this since he wanted one so bad

We ordered this for my son’s 7th birthday. I know he is a little young for this, but video games have really helped his hand eye coordination with things so we decided to try this since he wanted one so bad. It was an easy set up, and we had the thing flying within minutes. My son could even control it rather easy. The wind did pick up and it smacked into the house and broke a propeller, BUT it came with spare pieces!!! 🙌🏼 a quick swap and we was back in the skies. The video quality was good. It goes pretty fast but not too crazy. It’s easy to control unless it’s windy. It functions well for what it’s designed to do. Overall, very happy with this purchase! Now to go spy on neighbors! … kidding!

They do give you basic information on setting it up and turning it on but little else

This seems like a nice drone and we did manage to get it up and running with little help from the instructions. They do give you basic information on setting it up and turning it on but little else. For instance, what does the loud beeping mean that comes from the control box? Why are there red and blue lights? Do you have to have the camera pointed at you to maneuver and to keep it calibrated? Do you use the control box or the phone app or both? And, how do they interface if they do. These may seem like silly questions to those who have operated drones but they shouldn't assume everyone knows how to operate them. I would like to know what all the lights and sounds mean. It does have a smart phone app but that is as much a mystery as is the operation of the drone itself. Also there doesn't seem to be any support for purchasing extra parts or even someone to ask how to set up the drone with the app. This would go a long ways in making it a 5 star product. For those who don't need that information it will be a nice little drone.

The price is right, the video quality is too for said price

This is a very nice drone for beginners, like I very much am. The price is right, the video quality is too for said price. The App is OK, but tough to figure out at first. It will probably be harder for kids / older people not used to technology like this. It could certainly be a better app, but that's kinda what you pay for so I don't judge it too harsh. I've flown it out a dozen times now, crashed it a couple of times into trees, yet no broken parts to speak of. The lights on the droid are great for flying at night and look neat.
