Holy Stone HS110D FPV RC Drone Review: A Beginner’s Dream Come True

I recently purchased the Holy Stone HS110D FPV RC Drone and I couldn’t be happier with my decision! From the moment I unboxed it, I was impressed by the build quality, ease of setup, and the sleek design. Performance & Flight Stability The drone is incredibly stable, even in moderate wind conditions. smooth navigation, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced pilots. Camera Quality The 1080P HD Camera delivers breathtaking aerial shots and crystal-clear video footage. The gimbal stabilization. The live feed transmission is lag-free, providing a real-time view that enhances the flying experience. Battery Life & Range With over 15 minutes of flight time per battery, I get plenty of air time before needing a recharge. The extended range allows for long-distance flights without losing connection, which is a huge plus. Ease of Use & Features The auto takeoff and landing, make this drone extremely user-friendly. Even as a beginner, I felt confident flying it right away.

I’d have to say that I am very pleasantly surprised at how fun and easy the HS110D drone is to fly. Let me start off by saying that I have a drone family (both in the literal and figurative sense). We have a fleet of tiny indoor drones, and some really nice outdoor drones. I say we are a drone family in the literal and figurative sense because my children (4) and I love to fly the drones together outdoors, and the figurative part of the drone family is the “family” of drones we have between indoor and outdoor (a total of 8 drones). I purchased the HS110D because I wanted something that was super easy to fly, and could be flown indoors and out. The reviews were quite good, so I bit the bullet, not too hard because it was very reasonably priced relative to all of its features (~$55). It came in a premium box that included a lot of nice accessories. The HS110D came with 2 batteries, extra props/prop guards and landing gear, a comprehensive manual (which tends to be sorely lacking these days because they expect you to find it online, or the manual is super tiny), a nice little log/notebook (which actually has a nice, premium look of rawhide leather), and, what I liked the most was a “cheat sheet” overlay for the remote control. This drone is fun to fly, and super easy to learn. I really wanted this for my youngest daughter to feel safe and comfortable flying. And this checked all of the boxes. Taking her out for a flight was easy, and she took nice photos and video, responsive to controls, and decent battery life (for such a tiny battery). For ~$55, she packs quite a punch. Knowing that she was only ~$55 really helped me to set expectations. The photos and videos were decent quality, and I loved how she had the ability to do flips. I do note that because it lacks GPS and/or an optical flow sensor, much more user input is needed to keep her in control (I had to remind my kids, as they are used to my other drones holding their position because of the sensors and GPS). I think this is a great, entry level drone that checks the boxes of: 1) fun 2) easy to fly/control 3) inexpensive 4) decent photos/video (again, for a ~$55 drone). 5) great user manual and accessories There is not much I would want them to change or improve in drone in this price range. My only ask is that there was an external charger for the batteries (Unfortunately you have to charge the batteries in the drone) This is my second Holy Stone drone, and a reason to love Holy Stone is the customer service. It is second to none. They are responsive, understanding, helpful, and go way above and beyond to ensure that customer needs are met. They epitomize, “the customer is always right”. With the knowledge that Customer service is top notch and responsive, I will continue to come back to Holy Stone. They have a place in my drone family. So if you are looking for a great first/beginner drone (or simply a fun and easy to use indoor/outdoor drone), look no further! Here are a bunch of photos and a video I took. If you come into this with the right expectations (this is a ~$55 drone beginner drone, and not a professional or hobbyist level drone), you will have a great drone and a great experience.

First, let me explain that I never give five nor one star ratings. I don't bother reading either category when I'm looking to purchase anything. There's too much incentive to cheat on these things, whether to get you to buy a particular product, or to get you to consider a competitor. Having said that, for me, a four star rating is as high as I'll go. The Holy Stone HS110D is an excellent entry-level drone. It's got plenty of bells and whistles. The price point is reasonable. It's not a kid's toy, but it's also not a professional camera or racing drone by any means. I actually bought two of these. Hubris caused me to lose the first one after only three days. I figured I didn't need to RTFM or to take baby steps. I was wrong. You would be, too, if you just opened the box up and tried flying it in your house. Only a moron would do that, right? Ahem... well, anyway... I was literally hopping mad after I lost Holy Stone Number 1 in a nearby fast moving creek that was swollen from recent heavy rains... I got back to the house and ordered another one. The price was cheap enough, that I wrote the loss off as an important lesson in good conscience. Holy Stone Number 2 came in and I've been taking it slow and with caution. A big point is that this thing is light in the butt... a gust of wind can carry it off. As I mentioned at the outset, you're not going to be taking videos of your cousin's wedding with this... you're also not going to be racing around in competitive flying matches against other drones... Yes, it's billed as FPV and I've used it, but for me, there's too much of a lag to fly it in real-time... a split second can make a difference between successfully passing between two trees or hitting one along the way. If you consider this thing almost disposable and say, something issued with a beginner's drone course (note: a good idea Holy Stone people) you won't be disappointed. It will teach you the basic controls, and the available app will also get you acquainted with the generic functions that most lower end 'not-a-toy' drones use. Disclaimer: I'm far from up on everything my Holy Stone can do. If a friend wanted to get into the sport/hobby, I would push them towards the Holy Stone to start out with. I'd also tell them to start out in a big empty soccer pitch or parking lot, use the propeller guards (included) and get a handle on the trim functions to keep the thing hovering in place. Also, as I've mentioned, the thing is light and even with the propeller speed control set on the highest setting (lessens battery charge life), occasionally, a gust of say, 15 mph is going to create a situation that may cause 'newbie panic', wherein you get the controls backwards, or lose the sense of heading. Build quality is good for what you're paying. If you're interested in drones, you already know that you can spend a LOT of money on them. This drone is best considered as a trainer and practice air craft. You could buy ten, and in some cases, twenty or more Holy Stone HS110Ds for what they want for the pro drones. If you don't expect too much from these drones, you won't be disappointed. I've done some experiments with it (altitude, yada, yada) that I wouldn't dare attempt if I had spent $1,500 or so on it. But the acquisition of resultant knowledge was value added, including what made it crash a couple of times. While I don't consider myself a newbie anymore, I'm definitely still a rookie and I see another HS110D in my future to train with before I progress to a more expensive model. You have to crawl, then walk before you can run and as far as the Drone experience goes, this is the best unit to start off with, IMO.
